Well, a whole month has passed since I became President. So far, the funniest thing that has occurred is one of the board members asked me a question and prefaced it with “Mr. President”. It is humbling to be the President of the Chapter; the role requires a lot of effort and time. My experience so far reminds me of a quote by Dwight Eisenhower, “Any man who wants to be president is either an egomaniac or crazy”. I am not an egomaniac so I must be crazy.
At the same time it is rewarding; being associated with top notch learning professionals - is exhilarating. I am reminded on a regular basis why I chose the learning profession. Last month’s speaker Marcus Nicolls, gave a great presentation on Accountability. Our Directors of Programs (Bruce & Tyler) have put together top notch programs through the month of July and are working on programs for the remainder of the year.
Our membership is hovering in the 115 – 120 range but appears to be increasing. These are challenging times and most of know that in any industry the area of training is often the first to be cut. Yet the top ASTD Bench Mark companies seem to think investing in training has a high Return on Investment.
I encourage you to ask your fellow training professionals that are not currently members of the Sacramento Chapter to come take a look. For $80.00 a year*, the membership will give a great ROI. Just the ideas from one presentation can generate development ideas for content creation and integration.
